Our mission
Our mission is to build a healthier, more connected Los Osos/Baywood by developing, enhancing, supporting, and preserving inclusive park facilities and recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities for future generations. We believe that everyone should have safe, welcoming outdoor spaces within reach—whether that means a neighborhood park, a walking path to school, or a place to simply sit, breathe, and enjoy nature.

Why we formed
Los Osos and Baywood are surrounded by incredible natural beauty, but our community has long needed more accessible parks, trails, and gathering spaces. Residents have expressed a strong desire for safe walking routes, inclusive play areas, and multi‑use recreation spaces that serve kids, adults, and seniors alike. Parks for Los Osos was created to help meet those needs by organizing community support, raising funds, and partnering with local agencies to move important projects forward.
Sunnyside Park and our fast‑track start
While Parks for Los Osos has been in a careful planning phase, the opportunity and community need for Sunnyside Park accelerated our work. The potential to transform the former Sunnyside School property into a much‑needed community park highlighted exactly why our organization exists. We fast‑tracked our efforts so we could help support Sunnyside Park requirements, organize local backing, and prepare to raise funds both for this project and for future park and trail improvements across Los Osos/Baywood.
What we do
Parks for Los Osos focuses on:
-
Supporting the creation and improvement of local parks and recreation spaces.
-
Advocating for safe, connected walking and pedestrian paths throughout the community.
-
Raising funds for both a general Parks 4 Los Osos fund and specific campaigns such as Support Sunnyside Park.
-
Partnering with residents, local organizations, and agencies to plan and champion inclusive, accessible outdoor spaces.
How your support helps
